Bidding Questions and Answers

There are many systems available for bidding your bridge hand. Players at all levels are recommended to choose a well documented system (Standard American, Acol, Two over One, Precision etc) that is well founded with plenty of literature so that support is on hand when problems arise.

All players should remember that as beginners they were taught sound methods that remain sound when they gain experience and improve. Conventions and complexity may add to the Beginner's methods, but the underlying principles continue to apply.

Weak Distributional hands (eg 5-5, under 10hcp) remain weak distributional hands unless a fit emerges. With no fit sign off as low as possible, or respect partner's sign off.

It is a cliche to state that "The best bid is the one your partner understands" but it should be obvious that you are unlikely to get good results from misunderstandings.

These Question and Answer Pages describe areas of bidding where there is a potential for such misunderstandings.
